Principal - Anita Walker

S. PurdyHello Pickens County students, parents, and community stakeholders.  What an honor and privilege it is to serve as principal in an area where I have been blessed to grow up, attend school, and have a career educating students.  I am so excited about the 2016-2017 school year!

After graduating from Pickens High School, I received an Associate of Science degree at Reinhardt College.  I went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Education from North Georgia College.  Later, I obtained a Master of Arts in Middle Grade Mathematics and an Education Specialist degree from Piedmont College.  I completed my Leadership certification through Valdosta State University.

All of my 18 years of educational experience have been in Pickens County.  I taught at Jasper Elementary, Pickens County Middle, Jasper Middle, and Pickens High School.  Most of my teaching experience has been in the field of mathematics.  The past seven years, I have served as academic coach for Pickens County Middle and Jasper Middle.  Last year I served as assistant principal at Jasper Middle School.

I am married to Mickey Walker, and we have three children, Jess, Emily, and Chloe.  When I am not working, I am usually with my family.  We enjoy shopping, going to the movies, attending athletic events, and our annual trip to the beach.

Being principal is a new challenge, and I believe teamwork is the answer to success at Jasper Middle School.  It will take all of us working together to give our JMS students the best educational experience possible.  This is going to be a fabulous year!

Assistant Principal - Duane Cronic

Hello students, parents, and all stakeholders of Jasper Middle School. It is my pleasure to serve as your Assistant Principal here at JMS. I have taught math at Pickens High School for the last 12 years and am looking forward to my new adventure at an awesome school.

I graduated from Shorter University with a B.S. in Mathematics Education in 1997, obtained my Master of Education Degree from the University of Alabama in 2001, completed my Education Specialist Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Lincoln Memorial University in 2010, and finished my Education Leadership Certification Program in 2016.

My wife, Blair, and I have three children. Seth and Daxton are students at Hill City Elementary. Our third son, Blaine is not yet old enough to begin school. My hobbies include fishing, golfing, gardening, and coaching my sons’ sports teams.

Again, I look forward to working with our students, parents, teachers, and all community members in building upon the great tradition of excellence that Jasper Middle School has established over the years.
