Enhanced School Health Services
The Pickens County School District is excited to announce the opening of a School-Based Health Center (SBHC), made possible through a recently awarded grant. This center will provide students, staff, and household members with affordable access to comprehensive healthcare services. Our medical partner for the SBHC is the Good Samaritan Health and Wellness Center. The center will be located in an adjacent building to Pickens Junior High School and will serve all campuses. Telehealth services are currently available. To make an appointment, please send your child to the school nurse or call Dragon Care directly at 706-253-4633.
To register for services, complete the Minor Consent Form. Once we receive the consent form, Good Samaritan will send registration paperwork to the parent or guardian.
For more information, forms, and FAQs, please visit the Dragon Care website at https://www.goodsamhwc.org/dragoncare/.
You can reach the SBHC through the dedicated email address: dragoncare@goodsamhwc.org. Paperwork can be submitted via this email or dropped off at one of Good Samaritan's locations: Dragon Care (once it opens) or at 175 Samaritan Dr, Jasper, GA. Please note:
Good Samaritan employs licensed therapists who serve as counselors, with medical doctors overseeing their work. While counselors can provide therapy, any necessary prescriptions must be issued by a medical provider.
In-school, full-service dental care is provided by the Help a Child Smile Mobile Dental Program. Childhood cavities are more common than asthma. Infection from tooth decay can lead to other health problems.
Help a Child Smile will visit your child's school in the fall and spring of the school year, plus additional follow-up visits as needed. Dental care at school includes a complete exam, x-rays, cleaning, fluoride, sealants, and cavity treatment when needed. If your child does not have a regular dentist you can sign them up at www.myschooldentist.com, call 770-760-7900, or complete the appropriate dental consent form on the Documents & Forms webpage and turn it in to your child's school. If your child already has a dentist, you should keep going to that dentist.
